Generating facilities

The We Energies electric generating system includes 26 generating faclilities with a capacity of about 6,000 megawatts, located throughout Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (PDF 150k).

Fossil fuels
Coal

More than half of our total electric-generating capacity comes from our six coal-fueled power plants. About 25,000 tons of coal is used each day to meet our customer's electricity demand.

Natural gas

Natural gas, oil and coal account for about 88 percent of U.S. energy consumption. In 2008, 9.1 percent of We Energies electric energy mix will come from natural gas.

Renewable Energy

We Energies has the capacity to generate or purchase about 320 megawatts of our electricity supply from the renewable energy sources (PDF) of biomass, hydroelectric and wind.
