Generating Facilities
The We Energies electric generating system includes 24 generating faclilities with a capacity of about 6,100 megawatts, located throughout Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Fossil Fuels

Coal
More than half of our total electric-generating capacity comes from our six coal-fueled power plants. About 25,000 tons of coal is used each day to meet our customer's electricity demand.

Renewable Energy
We generate or purchase more than 140 megawatts of our electricity supply from the renewable energy sources of biomass, hydroelectric, solar and wind. Our 2006 renewable energy power supply mix included 53 percent wind, 4 percent water, 42 percent biomass and about 1 percent solar, making renewable energy 2 percent of our overall supply mix.

Solar
We Energies donated a 10-kilowatt photovoltaic solar power system to the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center, which supplies 10 to 20 percent of the building’s electricity.
