Steel Installation
The first phase of steelwork for the equipment support structure was installed on Aug. 29 at the We Energies Pleasant Prairie Power Plant in Kenosha County.
Being 20’ wide x 74’ long, the structure will contain necessary process vessels, which will be 83 feet tall, and chilling equipment for capturing CO2 gas. To provide service as a functioning pilot facility, the structure will not have walls, a roof or finished floors when it is complete. Additionally, the structure will not have office areas, as its purpose is to support and contain essential process equipment, piping and auxiliaries.
Construction of this portion of the Carbon Capture Project is on schedule. Start-up of the project is estimated to begin in late 2007. Project refinement and system evaluations will be conducted by Alstom Power Inc. and EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute), respectively, for approximately one year after start-up.
